Jiffy Muffin Mix
Jiffy brand mixes have been around since 1930 and have gained a loyal following since, due to being affordable and delicious. When tasked with redesigning their packaging, I knew that I wanted to slightly modernize their image while remaining approachable and reliable and showcasing the versatility of the product.

The Challenge (Digital Drafts)

It was important to me to showcase how multipurpose Jiffy brand mixes are, so I wanted to fit as many recipes as I could on the packaging. That meant I needed to adjust the typography to remain as consistent as possible throughout while remaining legible to the customer.
When I added in a third flavor, I had to resize one of the boxes so that all of the text fit properly. I made sure that the padding (space between) each recipe was the same throughout to maintain consistency and balance.
I learned a valuable lesson about the strictness of food labeling standards during this process. When I abbreviated the name of the packaging mix, it was pointed out that even if it seemed like a plausible abbreviation, it would never be allowed on actual packaging; it could be confusing to consumers.

Reflection
I enjoyed the process of updating the packaging for an iconic and long standing brand that still evokes the product’s versatility, affordability and deliciousness. The selection of typefaces go well together and the color palette whets the appetite and reflects the decadent flavor of each mix. I like that I was exposed to measuring the dimensions of the original packaging to create the dieline for the updated packaging. This project really ignited my interest in packaging design.
